With this commit, the Openblocks A6 PHY is not brought up, and so
network is broken.
I'll look into it (unless you have an idea),

Hm.. the devicetree needs to specify the phy-mode:

However, network works really crappy even after this change (either in barebox or in Linux).

Ezequiel,
RGMII phy-mode would have been my first guess.
Can you define "crappy" with respect to ethernet?
The patch doesn't do anything different than the linux marvell phy
code would do. Do you have access to A6's u-boot source and can match
up the PHY init sequence?
Sebastian

Maybe we need some 1V8 RGMII setup for A6 too?
https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/5/3/159
It also uses 88e1318 PHY but on A370 and on Kirkwood we also have
IO Configuration 0 register 0xf10100e0, bit 7:
RGMII PADS Voltage, 0 = 3V3, 1 = 1V8
Maybe you double-check it on u-boot first?
Sebastian

On barebox, I'm seeing tftp making slow progress but with lots and lots of
timeouts. And then on the Linux side, there are many NFSroot disconnects,
and userspace is unresponsive.
I haven't really done any serious measurements.

Yeah, I don't think the issue in on the PHY init.

Yes. Although U-Boot is barely readable, can't see anything interesting
being done with the PHY. (from ftp://ftp.plathome.co.jp/pub/OBSA6/uboot/)

A 74x164 shift register can be seen as a SPI attached GPIO expander.
This adds a driver for those poor-man expanders based on the Linux
driver.

Bitbang helpers for SPI require spidelay. This should be set
by the user and not the helper itself. Move it to ath79_spi
instead.

Marvell Armada 370 and XP have some coherency fabric. We are not
interested in using it, so remove checking for it in mbus driver.

Prior converting mbus driver from a platform device back to directly
called SoC driver, drop the device_d reference and covert dev_foo to
pr_foo.

Registering mbus driver as platform driver is a little late for
some register accesses to work. We have to make sure boot-up
mbus windows are disabled early, so call mbus driver directly
from SoC init.

Check number of CPUs in FABRIC_CONF and fixup PCIe DEV_ID when it is

Commit 6638760c225c37f90e822ebf4dd8f0d2cd0b0ef3
("ARM: mvebu: Enable PUP register")
correctly enables devices that are disabled after boot-up due to
some Design For Testability registers.
However, although harmless on Armada 370, call the code conditionally
on Armada XP only. While at it, move PUP register defines to SYSCTL
registers where they belong to.

Sascha,
please wait for the reworked deferred probing series. While reworking
it, I also converted gpio-orion from postcore_init() probed to a real
platform_driver to get more devices deferred. That also led to minor
updates to 74x164 driver and I'll have another look at the SPI bitbang
driver, too.
In the meantime, I also added support for the NAND flash controller
driver (mrvl_nand_nfc) to support NFCv2 of later Marvell SoCs. That
series needs some Tested-by from Robert Jarzmik on mach-pxa, so I'll
send it once ix4 went in.
About the NFC series, I'll add some NAND timing support based on the
ONFI default timings you may have seen it in the kernel already. It
will allow to derive PXA NFC's timings directly from the flash attached.
Sebastian
